The first part of December has been a blur! We’re gearing up for legislative session to begin in January, which kept me on the go with meetings, phone calls, and events. There were discussions on energy, the Board of Regents, health care needs, water resources, tax relief, and education. I participated in Elevate Rapid City’s Legislative luncheon and flew out to DC for an Emerging Leadership training at Mt Vernon. I was happy to sponsor Box Elder’s Winter Market with free cocoa and cider and attend their tree lighting. Also stopped at Word of Hope’s Winter Bazaar and picked up a beautiful square dance belt buckle. I greeted players at the LNI red carpet and served an appreciation lunch to Pennington County Sheriff’s Department. Representative Trish Ladner from District 30 and I travelled out to Reva to discuss draft bill 50 for grassland tax relief with area ranchers and then headed east. On the way to Dupree to visit with the Black Hills Association of County Commissioners I stopped in Faith (halfway to the North Pole no less).
I was able to celebrate a little of the holiday season at Elevate Rapid City’s Christmas mixer and a fundraiser for Hospice House at the Elks Lodge. This is going to be a tough legislative session. There are a lot of wonderful things happening in our state, but we also will need to take extra care to strategize how we prioritize our citizens, communities, and the Constitution. South Dakota is a special place and we need to keep it that way. Merry Christmas!
